Common causes

How we diagnose
We measure tooth length and width, the amount of gum visible at rest and when smiling, gum depth and bone level, and lip movement, using photos and a short video.
Treatment options
Laser gum contouring
When excess gum is the cause, laser gum contouring reveals the true length of the teeth and creates an even gum line, usually with less bleeding and quick healing. Planning must respect the natural distance between gum and bone so the result stays stable.
Crown lengthening with bone reshaping
If the bone is too close to the tooth edge, a small bone adjustment may be needed as well.
Combining with veneers
Short or worn teeth may need gum contouring plus veneers to restore ideal proportions — common in a Hollywood smile plan.
Muscle and jaw causes
Non-surgical options can reduce lip lift; significant jaw overgrowth may need orthognathic surgery with a specialist, and we tell you honestly if so.
